Competition for Students “Dialogue in the Frame”

The Deliberation Center at the Faculty of Sociology, University of Warsaw, and the Democracy in Practice Association invite students to participate in the photography competition: “Dialogue in the Frame.” The competition accompanies the International Observatory of Participatory Democracy conference, which will take place September 21-23, 2026, in Krakow.

We welcome interesting and original works that will explore dialogue from the perspective of young people.

We encourage you to explore the following themes:

• Dialogue and New Technologies,
• Dialogue and Urban Space,
• Dialogue in the Local Community,
• Dialogue at the University,
• Dialogue in Diversity,
• Conflict, Dialogue, Understanding.

It’s up to you how you interpret the competition’s motto!

Who are we inviting?

You can participate in the competition if:

You are studying at a Polish university,
You are studying in Poland under the Erasmus program.

How to enter the competition?

Please send 1 to 2 digital photos of your own creation by September 4, 2026, to the following email address: dialog@is.uw.edu.pl.

In the subject line, enter: “DIALOGUE IN THE FRAME.” In the body of the message, please provide: your name, surname, university name, and contact phone number.

How will we select the winner?

The entries will be assessed by a jury composed of:

• Jury Chair: Dr. hab. Paweł Żak, Head of the Department of Photography and Visual Communication, Faculty of Journalism, Information and Book Studies, University of Warsaw;
• Wojciech Grzędziński, photojournalist;
• Dr. Justyna Napiórkowska, art historian, Europeanist, artistic director of the Katarzyna Napiórkowska Art Gallery in Warsaw and Brussels;
• Dr. hab. Anna Przybylska, prof. Student, Head of the Deliberation Center, Faculty of Sociology, University of Warsaw;
• Dr. Krzysztof Świrek, Assistant Professor, Faculty of Sociology, University of Warsaw.

The competition results will be announced on September 14, 2026, on the website: cd.uw.edu.pl.

The organizer provides the following prizes for the top three winners:

• a framed photograph (50 cm x 70 cm)
• book prizes.

The awards ceremony will take place during the International Observatory of Participatory Democracy conference on September 23, 2026, in Krakow.
